Why Music?
Music is Science- Exact, specific, and demands precision and exacting acoustics. A conductor's score is a chart, a graph which indicates frequencies, intensities, volume, melody and harmony all at once and with the most exact control of time.
Music is Math- It is rhythmically based on subdivisions of time into fractions which must be computed instantaneously, not worked out on paper.
Music is Language- Most musical terms are in Italian, German, or French. The notation itself is a highly developed kind of shorthand that uses symbols to represent specific ideas. The semantics of music is the most complete and universal language.
Music is History- Music and art reflect the environment and times of its creation and creator, often including nationalistic, cultural, and religious elements.
Music is Physical Education- It requires fantastic coordination of fingers, hands, arms, lips, cheek, and facial muscles in addition to extraordinary control of the diaphragmatic, back, and chest muscles, which respond instantly to the sound the ear hears and the mind interprets. Marching Band extends this further with the demands on the lower body as well as with multiple demands placed on the body all at once, often while carrying a heavy instrument.
Music is Psychology- One of the greatest aspects of music is how it connects with our emotions. It can stir our souls, communicate with feelings that have no words, offer an outlet for emotions needing to be expressed.
Music Develops Insight and Demands Research- The many complex levels of music entail both physical, historical, and emotional qualities using complex means of expression which are not always obvious to the listener.
Music is Art- above all, it allows a human being to take all of these things and use them to create something no other subject teaches, which are paramount to a high quality of life: aesthetics, humanism, and emotion.

Support our Programs!
Equipment, Props, Instruments.
Flags, batons, rifles, elaborate props, quality instruments. All of these things come at a cost and each makes are program better and more competitive.
Maintenance, Repair, Replacement.
Instruments and equipment require regular maintenance and repair. Some of our instruments and equipment have been used for so long long, repair is no longer an option and it needs to be replaced.
Awards, Recognition, Bonding.
It is important that we take care in recognizing the students hard work and accomplishments. We do this with awards, recognitions, and bonding/celebratory events.
Uniforms, Costumes, Attire.
Our Marching Band is replacing its uniforms for the first time in 30 years! Color Guard and Drumline choose new costumes each season to fit the theme of their show. Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Wind Ensemble require the finest Concert Attire to represent an air of class and sophistication.
Travel, Events.
Each of our programs compete and perform in circuits which require travel. To make it to these destinations we need to rent trucks and buses, book flights, pay for hotels and expenses. And we always have to throw in some fun!
Instruction, Specialists, Master Classes
Of all the things you would think the district would pay for it would be instruction. Unfortunately, this is only partly true. To make our program the best it can be, we bring in Specialists to teach the students a plethora of new skills that one teacher alone could not accomplish.
